What are the Excellence in Youth Sports Awards?


The Excellence in Youth Sports Awards honor programs that are doing superior jobs of conducting diverse activities with a focus on providing safe and positive experiences for all participants -- including children, parents and coaches. Developed by the National Alliance for Youth Sports and Athletic Business magazine, the first Excellence in Youth Sports Awards were presented in 2000.

Who qualifies for judging?


Any organization affiliated with the National Alliance for Youth Sports qualifies for judging.

How many annual awards are presented?


Up to five communities are annually recognized as Excellence in Youth Sports Award winners. Applications that qualify for the final round of judging, but that do not win an award, receive Honorable Mention recognition.

How are the winners chosen?


The Excellence Award Committee, comprised of National Alliance for Youth Sports and Athletic Business staff, review applications. Please click on the "How to Apply" tab above for detailed information. Applications are judged on several criteria, including what the organization does to educate their administrators, volunteer coaches, game officials and parents; as well as how well they demonstrate that they embrace a child-centered recreational sports philosophy that is aimed at providing a positive and safe experience for all youth.
