Fort Knox Child and Youth Services Sports and Fitness (Ky.) named 2008 Excellence in Youth Sports Award winner
One of five organizations worldwide that received the prestigious honor at the International Youth Sports Congress in Orlando, Fla.
Fort Knox Child and Youth Services Sports and Fitness (Ky.) is one of five communities worldwide that has been chosen to receive the prestigious Excellence in Youth Sports Award. Presented by the National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS) and Athletic Business magazine, the annual award recognizes special organizations that operate diverse youth sports programs that focus on providing positive and safe experiences for all participants.
Fort Knox Child and Youth Services Sports and Fitness – the youth sports organization of the U.S. Army Armor Center in Fort Knox, Ky. – was so effective in establishing a sports program that surrounding communities outside the base now include them in their leagues.
“Fort Knox Child and Youth Services Sports and Fitness’s commitment to providing the highest quality youth sports environment possible should act as an inspiration to us all,” said Fred Engh, founder and CEO of NAYS. “They truly are a model organization who fully deserves this recognition.”
Along with the four other winning communities, Fort Knox Child and Youth Services Sports and Fitness received the Excellence Award at the 2007 International Youth Sports Congress in Orlando, Fla., from Nov. 28 to Dec. 1. The Congress – held in conjunction with the Athletic Business Conference and Expo – a three-day comprehensive educational training discussing cutting edge topics in the field of youth sports and is the preferred venue for all professionals involved in youth sports.
This year’s other Excellence award recipients are Botetourt County Parks and Recreation Department (Va.); Commander Fleet Activities (CFA) Yokosuka, Japan Youth Sports; Misawa Youth Sports Program (Misawa Air Force Base, Japan); and St. Andrew’s Parish and Playground Commission Park and Recreation (S.C.).
Each winning community will receive:
• A financial award and in-kind contributions valued up to $5,000 to be used for the support and enhancement of the winning entry's youth sports program.
• National, state and local recognition including the publications of Athletic Business and the National Alliance for Youth Sports.
• A custom award to be displayed in the home facility.
• One (1) complimentary registration for the International Youth Sports Congress.
• Recognition at the Athletic Business Conference.
The award was presented by former NFL quarterback Joe Theismann, a Super Bowl winner with the Washington Redskins, who also delivered the keynote address.
