University of Wisconsin sophomore Matt Stoltz is more than 1,500 miles in to his approximately 1,700 mile bike journey from Wisconsin to the National Alliance for Youth Sports’ (NAYS) headquarters in West Palm Beach, Fla., a trip he is undertaking to help make a difference in the lives of underprivileged children worldwide through the power of sports. He will reach NAYS' headquarters on Monday, Aug. 6.
 
Stoltz’s 37-day bike ride, which covers eight states and began on July 1, is aimed at helping to raise money and awareness for NAYS’ ONE WORLD. ONE TEAM. initiative, which collects new and gently used sports equipment from individuals and organizations nationwide that it then distributes at no cost to children in need living in horrific conditions in which AIDS, poverty and famine have a stranglehold on their lives.    
 
Through the power of sports NAYS is committed to providing these children with positive outlets – via much-needed sports equipment and programming – to help fill their endless hours of free time and reduce the likelihood that they turn to drugs, alcohol, violence and sexual activity.
 
Every cent raised during Stoltz’s ride will be used to cover the costs associated with providing sports equipment to countries worldwide. Last year alone more than 7,500 pounds of equipment was sent by NAYS to children in Nigeria, Guatemala, Morocco, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mexico, the Philippines, Cameroon, Uganda and Ghana, as well as to a couple of communities in need in the U.S.
