Outstanding youth sports programs, volunteers awarded at Youth Sports Congress

Each year the National Alliance Youth Sports (NAYS) recognizes a select group of youth sports programs and volunteers for their commitment to providing children with a youth sports environment that emphasizes fun over winning, the value of making friends and balancing a competitive spirit with sportsmanship.

When youngsters have fun in sports, they are more likely to continue their participation season after season and take advantage of the benefits sports offer, like physical activity, learning social skills and the importance of teamwork. And the recipients of the 2013 NAYS awards makes outcomes like these a priority.

Excellence in Youth Sports

NAYS headquarters receive hundreds of applications every year from youth sports programs that vie to be named one of the five Excellence in Youth Sports award winners. The Excellence in Youth Sports award recognizes programs that are doing superior jobs of conducting diverse activities with a focus on providing safe and positive experiences for all participants - including children, parents and coaches.

The winners of the 2013 Excellence in Youth Sports award are:
  • Botetourt County Parks, Recreation and Tourism (Fincastle, Va.)
  • Fort Rucker Youth Sports and Fitness (Ala.)

  • Glynn County Recreation & Parks Department (Brunswick, Ga.)

  • Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation (Charlotte, N.C.)

  • Tinker Youth Programs (Okla.)

Outstanding volunteers

Volunteers are a key component to a successful youth sports program. They donate their time and skills to help provide a memorable youth sports experience to the children in their community. The Coach of the Year and Parent of the Year awards pays homage to outstanding volunteers and are often nominated to NAYS headquarters for consideration by a fellow volunteer, a youth sports administrator or spouse.
