Excellence Award FAQs

How are the winners chosen?

First, applicants must complete a Preliminary Online Excellence Award application. This Online application must include all the required information and must be submitted by the deadline. Based on the information received, the Excellence Award Committee, comprised of National Alliance for Youth Sports and Athletic Business staff, review applications. Then, selected applicants are invited to participate in the Final Round Process that includes two mandatory elements – a more thorough application/review of the program and a completed survey component (Finalists are provided a link to a survey to have as many parents, coaches, volunteers, sponsors and anyone connected to their programs complete the online questionnaire). These mandatory elements must be submitted by a certain date. Then Final Round programs are judged on several criteria, including what the organization does to educate their administrators, volunteer coaches, game officials and parents, in addition to how well they demonstrate that they embrace a child-centered recreational sports philosophy that is aimed at providing a positive and safe experience for all youth. Those organizations that submit the mandatory final elements but do not win the Excellence in Youth Sports Award are considered Excellence in Youth Sports Finalists.
