Nominate special individuals for NAYS Coach and Parent of the Year awards

5/7/2010

Do you know of a volunteer in your league that regularly goes above and beyond in his or her duties as a youth sports coach? Or how about a supportive parent who regularly helps make youth sports activities a positive and safe experience for all the children?

If so, show your appreciation to these special individuals by nominating them for the prestigious National Alliance for Youth Sports’ (NAYS) Coach and Parent of the Year awards.

The Coach of the Year award is presented annually to a volunteer coach who is a member of the National Youth Sports Coaches Association (NYSCA), the coach training program of NAYS. The NYSCA Coach of the Year award is presented to an individual who embodies everything that a volunteer coach should be all about. It’s someone who places the emotional and physical well-being of players ahead of any personal desire to win; who treats each player as an individual; who is an enthusiastic team leader and a positive role model; who has a thorough knowledge of the techniques and rules of the sport they’re coaching; and who understands that they can use their role as a coach to influence so many other areas of a child’s life.

The Parent of the Year award is presented to a special parent from a NAYS member community that utilizes its parent education program, the Parents Association for Youth Sports (PAYS). The award is presented each year to one special youth sports parent who consistently emphasizes fun, learning and safety; who treats every child with the same respect and patience as their own child; and who is an enthusiastic supporter of the coach and the team.

The Coach and Parent of the Year awards will be presented by Mike Ditka, NFL Hall of Fame coach, at the annual NAYS Youth Sports Congress that is held in conjunction with the Athletic Business Conference and Expo. This year’s Youth Sports Congress is being held at the San Diego (Calif.) Convention Center from Dec. 1-4.

Both award recipients will receive a custom award to display at the facility; national, state and local recognition; and complimentary airfare, lodging and registration to the NAYS Youth Sports Congress.
