The United States Naval Base in Yokosuka, Japan recently hosted a special Academy for Youth Sports Administrators (NAYS Academy), enabling 20 Naval recreation professionals from bases around the world to earn the coveted Certified Youth Sports Administrator (CYSA) credential.
The NAYS Academy is a comprehensive certification program, provided by the nonprofit National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS), that offers cutting-edge information on critical topics that enable youth sports administrators to perform their wide range of duties more efficiently for the benefit of the participants.
The special NAYS Academy hosted by Yokosuka Youth Sports is part of a larger Navy initiative to install at least one CYSA on every base youth sports program throughout the world. The Navy also looks to establish every base as an official NAYS Chapter, which means that their volunteer youth sports coaches will be trained and certified through NAYS’ innovative coaches training program, the National Youth Sports Coaches Association (NYSCA).
The NAYS Academy provides administrators with a strong foundation of knowledge on a variety of topics and issues pertaining to managing youth sports programs in today’s ever-changing environment, as well as the tools to positively impact the youth sports experience for all children in their communities.
Some of the topics covered through the NAYS Academy are youth sports philosophy, professional development, volunteer management, child abuse prevention, parent management, conflict resolution, risk management, program evaluation and marketing.

More than 2,000 administrators have gone through the NAYS Academy, which is available for administrators to conveniently complete online at their own pace. An on-site Academy will also be held later this year on Dec. 1-4 in San Diego, Calif., as a special track in conjunction with the NAYS Youth Sports Congress and the Athletic Business Conference & Expo.
The NAYS Academy is one of many programs provided by NAYS, America's leading advocate for positive and safe sports and activities for children.
