The NYSCA Coaching Youth Basketball Under 10 Clinic is one of the most comprehensive resources for volunteer coaches involved in youth basketball. The unique video clips are designed to help you, regardless if you are new to the sport or have coached for many years, enhance both your knowledge and teaching skills so you are better prepared to guide every player on your team to a safe, fun and rewarding experience.
This clinic focuses on how to go about teaching basketball skills and drills for youngsters ages 10 and younger. It features the following sections:
Warm-up – It’s important that players go through a warm-up to get their muscles loose and their hearts pumping. Plus, the more basketball skills you can incorporate into the warm-up period the more beneficial the time will be to your players. You can use the warm-up presented here to get the most out of your session with your players.
Ball Handling – Youngsters who are able to dribble the ball while maintaining possession of it are going to gain a lot more enjoyment from the sport and be more difficult to guard. This section covers the dribbling basics to help you build confident and proficient ball handlers.
Passing – Creating opportunities for open shots requires good passing skills from all your players. This section delves into the fundamentals of delivering and catching passes.
Shooting – All players love shooting, especially when they see the ball dropping through the net. This section introduces the basics of teaching lay-ups and set shots and establishing those really valuable shooting fundamentals with your players.
Defense – When you send your players out on the floor you want them to play good offense and defense. Here, you’ll learn the basics of teaching defense to your players so that they understand how to play at both ends of the court.
After each video you must answer a set of review questions before continuing to the next section. Once you have watched each video and correctly answered all review questions you will have successfully completed the sports specific clinic.
