Congress session: Coaching the coaches on mental toughness

9/13/2017

Mental toughness is a valuable attribute for youngsters competing in any sport to possess – but are the coaches in your program teaching it?

During this year’s NAYS Youth Sports Congress Dr. Rob Bell, one of the nation’s premier sports psychology coaches, will lead a session revealing how coaches can build confident and resilient competitors.

Coaching the Coaches on Mental Toughness – one of many can’t-miss sessions on tap at this year’s 16th annual NAYS Youth Sports Congress in Orlando – will take place on Fri., Nov. 10 from 9:45 to 11 a.m.

During Bell’s session attendees will learn the importance of mental toughness and the crucial role it plays in competition; they will discover specific strategies and best practices for building mental toughness; and they will learn how to communicate these strategies to coaches.

The better prepared young athletes are to handle the ups and downs that accompany competition – and being able to respond appropriately – the more they’ll gain from their participation.

And the more prepared they’ll be to face life’s many challenges, too.

Bell is the author of five books on mental toughness, including Don’t “Should” On Your Kids. He has served as the mental coach for multiple winners on the PGA Tour, as well as worked with University of Notre Dame athletes, a medalist at the 2016 Summer Olympics and a junior national tennis champion.

The Youth Sports Congress, the signature event of the National Alliance for Youth Sports, is a four-day comprehensive educational experience designed specifically for youth sports administrators. This training allows attendees to participate in the Congress, the Athletic Business Show, and maintain or earn their Certified Youth Sports Administrator (CYSA) credential.

The NAYS Youth Sports Congress kicks off Wednesday, Nov. 8, with a motivational keynote focused on professionalism for youth sports administrators. Plus, the winners of the Excellence in Youth Sports Award as well as the NAYS Volunteer Coach of the Year and the NAYS Youth Sports Parent of the Year will be recognized.

NAYS Youth Sports Congress attendees also have access to Athletic Business’ keynote address, Expo and welcome reception.

Charles Duhigg, bestselling author of “The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business,” will deliver the keynote address. Duhigg, a Pulitzer prize-winning investigative reporter for the business section of The New York Times, will delve into the science of habit formation in our lives, companies and societies.

The Expo features more than 250 exhibitors, where you'll meet product experts displaying every component for any of your needs. NAYS sponsors have their own pavilion where you can meet great supporters of NAYS programs.

The always fun Athletic Business welcome reception will take place at Lafayette’s Restaurant and Bar. Known for great live music and tasty Southern-inspired dishes, Lafayette’s is the perfect place to connect with AB Show conference attendees, exhibitors and speakers, as well as those attending the Youth Sports Congress.
