The Start Smart Move and Play program is the most recently developed program by the National Alliance for Youth Sports. This program teaches children (ages 2-3) the basic fine and gross motor skills necessary to create a solid foundation for future skills and activities that are part of everyday life. The program focuses on teaching children and their parents fine and gross motor skills in a fun and stress-free environment. The Start Smart Move and Play program sessions are held once a week for eight weeks (or twice per week for four weeks), and each week the exercises become increasingly more difficult as the program progresses, and the children show improvement.
The Start Smart Move and Play program is a developmentally appropriate introductory fine and gross motor skills program for children 2-3 years old. Developing these motor skills in a safe, fun and age appropriate environment will ensure that the participants gain strength and confidence in their body. It will help them get exercise and physical activity. Finally, developing these skills will help a child’s ability to do more complex skills in future activities, whether it’s playing a sport, doing school projects or drawing/painting.
