Former youth football treasurer accused of $100,000 theft

A parent who volunteered as treasurer for a youth football league in California was arrested, accused of siphoning more than $100,000 from the group.

Sheriff’s detectives arrested the 41-year-old woman on suspicion of 20 counts of grand theft, and three counts of identity theft.

She was taken into custody at the academy where she teaches math. She faces more than 18 years in custody if convicted.

She is accused of stealing from a nonprofit that serves more than 300 children in its youth football and cheerleading programs.

She has been jailed in lieu of $300,000 bail but must prove that whatever bail money she posts came from legitimate sources and isn’t related to her alleged crimes.
